We are bringing the house into the 21st century, while remaining sensitive to the home's original materials and spaces. The mechanicals will be focused in the back two rooms.
Below. Looking from the front right room into the two back rooms. The far back room will have a bathroom and laundry area. The middle room will be the kitchen.
We placed a 19th century heart pine North Georgia cupboard on the back wall. I love the sightline from the front to the back of the house. The bathroom and laundry will in the back room. A 19th century table from Alabama sits in the planned kitchen area. It's counter height and narrow. We spotted this several years ago, and knew it was perfect for use in this kitchen.
Even though we "begin" the interior, we've certainly come a long way. I like to look back and remember where we were just a few short years ago . . .
Below. We first walked into these rooms in 2011. Same sightline as above. Even then, we could see the potential!!
Completing the exterior, we restored all the original windows. (yes, hard to believe the wood windows were in the house!)
Below. The kitchen window is in place. And the renovated fireplaces were put to good use this winter!
Porch doors were not original and in irreparable condition. The replaced doors have windows.
Below. The porch door into the back room.
Below. The exterior view of these back two rooms.
